Aviation Maintenance Technician (AC)

Certificate

This curriculum prepares students for employment as airframe and powerplant maintenance technicians. The major provides the student a unique combination of theory and practical applications on a wide variety of aircraft. The course work stresses practical application and troubleshooting of powerplants and airframe structures. As graduates, students will be eligible to take the required examinations for the Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance Certificate.

Career Opportunities:  Employment as maintenance technicians for commercial aviation, general aviation, aviation repair stations and manufacturer's services. With technician experience, a graduate may advance to positions as maintenance supervisor, manufacturer service representative, product development technician and accident/equipment failure investigators.

Recommended High School Subjects:  Three years of English, one year of algebra and one year of science.

Remediation Strategies:  The sequence of remediation will be mathematics, reading, English.

Transfer Procedures:  This major is subject to the transfer standards established by the College (see http://www.pct.edu/catalog/TransferringCredits.htm ). Exceptions must be approved by the school dean.

Program Goals:  A graduate of this major should be able to:

Performance Standards:  Students must earn a 'C' or better in all FAA-approved Airframe and Powerplant courses to progress in the major and be allowed to take the FAA written exams.
