Diagnostic Medical Sonography (019)

(Effective Fall 2001)

Pennsylvania College of Technology's competency credential in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is an offering whereby a student can take the course work for credit and apply it to the bachelor's degree in Applied Health Studies.

This competency credential will prepare the practitioner to take certification exams (registries). To be eligible for the competency credential, a student must complete all SON courses (13 credits), document 1,500 hours of clinical practice, be a registered radiographer, a practitioner of sonography who is seeking certification eligibility, or a Penn College graduate who has successfully passed the ARRT exam in Radiography.

Unique Features: Courses will primarily be offered on weekends to accommodate practitioners. The most advanced ultrasound equipment will be made available for hands-on instruction.

Prerequisite skills: Interested students will need to demonstrate knowledge and document experience in ultrasound and/or medical radiography to be eligible for course selection. The Director of Radiography and sonography faculty will assess the aforementioned criteria.
