Computer Law, Ethics and Society
Overview of the legal and ethical implications involved in computing in today's workplace,focusing on the interaction between people and computers. Topics to be discussed include the legal implications of writing computer programs for sale (copyright, contracts, warranties, patents, software protection, liabilities), hardware and software procurement, computer system failures, data security, privacy, and personnel management. Topics concerning computer crime, psychology and human-computer interaction, health issues in the use of computers, and the impact of computer use on society in the local and global communities, both now and in the future, will also be emphasized. A major component of the course will be the discussion of ethical concerns involved with each of these issues, particularly with regard to both the employer and the employee's ethical responsibilities in using computer facilities. 3 Credits (3 Lecture - 0 Lab) Prerequisite(s): CSC110 and ENL111.
