Study providing a working knowledge of communication systems commonly used to support data and telecommunications. In-depth study includes the efficiency of synchronous and asynchronous transmission for local and wide area networks; the relationship between transmission protocol and network topologies; and error detection and correction, line control, and security analysis as they relate to information integrity in a distributed telecommunications environment. Discussion also covers the effect of government legislation and regulation on telecommunications and data communications. 3 Credits (3 Lecture - 0 Lab) Prerequisite(s): CIT270.
