Course Descriptions

CHM203
Organic Chemistry I
Fundamental concepts in organic chemistry. Topics include structure and reactions of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, and alkyl halides; nomenclature of organic compounds; stereochemistry; and reaction mechanisms. Laboratory instruction includes experimental techniques of modern organic chemistry, emphasizing chemical separations and reactions of alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, ketones, and alkyl halides. Exploration of stereochemical modeling and the identification of organic unknowns. Student must meet prerequisite requirements or obtain permission from instructor to enroll. 4 Credits (3 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): CHM111 or CHM121 or CHM123.
