College Catalog

Organic Chemistry II

CHM204

Advanced concepts in organic chemistry, including the structure and reactions of carboxylic acids and derivatives, aromatic compounds, and amines; an introduction to IR, NMR, and GC-MS spectroscopy; an introduction to the chemistry of heterocycles, carbohydrates, and amino acids; nomenclature of organic compounds; and reaction mechanisms. Laboratory instruction includes experimental techniques of modern organic chemistry, emphasizing reactions involving alcohols, ketones, carboxylic acids, aromatic compounds, and their derivatives. Multistep syntheses are also introduced. 4 Credits (3 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): CHM203.
