Mopar Fundamentals of Automotive Technology

CAP110

Introduction to the Mopar automotive systems, including the eight NATEF maintenance and light repair topic areas. Theoretical and practical operations of each system. Topics covered include Chrysler Group LLC dealership operation, vehicle safety inspection, basic maintenance and lubrication, minor repairs, and Chrysler's TechCONNECT Web site. Additional topics explore the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring tools, as well as concepts in automotive fastening, sealing, and light fabrication. 5 Credits (4 Lecture - 3 Lab) Prerequisite(s): Placement by Examination or MTH004 and Placement by Examination or RDG001. Mopar Automotive Electrical Systems

CAP120

Theory and application of the laws of electricity, circuit construction, circuit operation, and fault diagnosis and repair. Battery, starting, charging, lighting, and power accessory system circuits are also included. Mopar Automotive Electronic Systems

CAP130

Exploration of advanced electronics principles needed for proper vehicle on-board system diagnosis; study extends beyond the wiring harness connector to the computer and explores solid state electronics and microprocessor operation. Topics include sensors, signal inputs, signal conditioning, decision making, logic circuits, outputs, actuators, and networks. Mopar Automotive Chassis Systems

CAP140

Theory, construction, and operation of steering and suspension systems, including component relationships, steering geometry, wheel alignment, rear and front suspension service, system repair, and wheel balancing. Conventional and electronic power steering theory of operation, diagnosis, and testing are included. Additional topics include hydraulic brake systems, including theory and service of braking systems, system components, system operation, troubleshooting, adjustments, and repair. Basics of antilock braking, stability control, and regenerative braking are covered. Mopar Automotive Climate Control Systems

CAP145

Theory and operation of climate control systems. Topics include proper diagnosis and servicing techniques, including recycling and handling of refrigerants and testing for system contamination and substitute refrigerants. Emphasis on the effects of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and tetrafluoroethane on Earth’s atmosphere. Modern automatic climate control, dual zone climate control, and heated and cooled seat systems are discussed. Specialized work experience as an automotive technician to be performed at a sponsoring Chrysler Group LLC dealership. The experience applies the knowledge and skills developed in previous second-semester Mopar CAP classes. Mopar Dealership Internship III

CAP162

Specialized work experience as an automotive technician to be performed at a sponsoring Chrysler Group LLC dealership. The experience applies the knowledge and skills developed in CAP145 during the first six weeks of the summer semester. Mopar Dealership Internship IV

CAP163

Specialized work experience as an automotive technician to be performed at a sponsoring Chrysler Group LLC dealership. The experience applies the knowledge and skills developed in the first 12 months of Mopar CAP classes. Mopar Dealership Internship V

Specialized work experience as an automotive technician to be performed at a sponsoring Chrysler Group LLC dealership. The experience applies the knowledge and skills developed in previous third-semester Mopar CAP classes. Mopar Engine Diagnosis and Repair

CAP210

Engine theory and operation, including engine disassembly, inspection, repair, replacement, measurement, and reassembly. Course work includes study and practical application of the procedures, techniques, and special equipment used to diagnose base engine problems relating to variable camshaft timing, oil consumption, engine noise, power loss, the lubrication system, and the cooling system. Mopar Automotive Engine Performance

CAP220

Theory and application of engine performance analysis and basic tune-up procedures. Operation and troubleshooting of the Chrysler Group LLC gasoline and diesel engine management systems including fuel delivery, fuel control, emission controls, ignition, engine controls, forced induction, and direct injection technology are covered. Additional topics include the purpose and performance of computerized engine control systems; theory of operation, service, troubleshooting, and repair; and the fundamentals of hybrid technologies. Content includes the latest "Chrysler Academy Gasoline Engine Performance." Mopar Automotive Manual Powertrain and 4-Wheel Drive Systems

CAP230

Operational theories, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of drivetrain systems and drivetrain components. Topics include clutches, manual transmission and transaxles, drive axles, half shafts, drive shafts, universal joints, 4-wheel drive systems, transfer cases, and limited slip differential carriers. Mopar Automotive Automatic Powertrain Systems

Theory of operation, troubleshooting, service, repair, and overhaul of automatic transmissions and transaxles. Topics focus on 4-, 5-, 6- and 8-speed transaxles and transmissions with emphasis on operation, power flow, diagnosis, and service operations, to include overhaul, removal, and replacement of units.
