Environmental Impacts of the HVAC Industry
This course is a study of the impacts of the HVAC industry on the natural environment in the U.S. and the world, including the social and technological responses to these environmental impacts. Special topics will include pollution sources, the extent and forms of water, air and solid waste pollution, health effects, the historical growth of the environmental movement and the HVAC industry, and technological responses to HVAC related pollutants. Important topics include refrigerant use and management, fuel spills and storage, stack emissions and green buildings. Special emphasis will highlight the place technological development and energy efficiency has on reducing negative environmental impact. This course is a writing enriched course where formal and informal writing will be required and emphasized.
