Transmission and Distribution Technology (TR)

Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.)

This major prepares students for hands-on entry level positions with power and utility companies that generate, transmit, and distribute electrical power. Students will learn fundamental concepts of electricity, and modern methods of generation, distribution and the use of electricity in electrical equipment. Students will gain hands-on skills in the use of electrical test equipment, operation of power equipment to install poles and anchors, and the safe installation of electrical distribution equipment including transformers and cables.

Career Opportunities:  This major prepares graduates for positions such as utility lineman, installer, inspector, electrical troubleshooter, transmission system technician, and sub-station maintenance technician.

Recommended High School Subjects:  Two or more years of algebra, trigonometry, physics, and communications are recommended. Vocational courses are desirable but not required.

Special Admissions Requirements:  This major is restricted to PPL employees only.

Remediation Strategies:  Students should remediate any math, English, or reading developmental requirements in the first year of enrollment.

Transfer Procedures:  Graduates may continue in the Technology Management (BTM) or Building Automation Technology (BBT) major to complete a four-year bachelor of science degree.

This major is subject to the transfer standards established by the College and detailed in the Information section (see "Transferring Credits") of this catalog. Exceptions must be approved by the school dean.
