Building Maintenance Emphasis (TB)

This curriculum is intended to provide a basic understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems of buildings and the fundamental hands-on skills to troubleshoot, service, and maintain installed equipment in a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Students will learn basic building system concepts and practice the fundamental hands-on skills to prepare for entry-level positions in building maintenance areas. Interrelationships of building systems and safety concerns will be emphasized.

Career Opportunities:  Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions for maintenance workers, facilities managers, building contractors, construction material sales, and inspectors. With additional experience and education, students may progress to management and supervisory positions in the construction and maintenance fields.

Recommended High School Subjects:  High school algebra and geometry; communications; building trades courses are desirable but not required.

Remediation Strategies:  Students should remediate any mathematics or communications deficiencies during the first semester. Placement testing and developmental requirements will be according to existing College Policy.

Transfer Procedures:  This major is subject to the transfer standards established by the College and detailed in the Information section (see "Transferring Credits") of this catalog. Exceptions must be approved by the school dean.
