Successful Telephone Interview Tips
- In order to be able to project professionalism, you should be dressed the part even if no one will actually see you
- Make sure you are alone in the room and that there are no distractions
- If you have call waiting, turn it off
- Have your interview tools in front of you including
- A résumé
- An outline of the points you want discuss
- Pen and paper
- Relevant company information
- Questions for the employer
- A glass of water
- Include anything else that will help you feel more at ease during the interview
- While interviewing, listen to the questions carefully and answer only what is being asked
- If the interviewer catches you by surprise and you are not prepared for the interview, ask if you can call him or her back in a few moments
- During the interview be sure to project a confident, sincere and friendly demeanor. The employer cannot observe your body language and will be listening to the tone of your voice as well as you responses. A smile or a frown will come through the airwaves almost as if you were sitting right in front of the interviewer
