Six Wildcat Baseball Players Named to All-Conference Team

Six Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball players were named to the Penn State University Athletic Conference 2011 all-conference team, including three on first squad. The teams are voted upon by the conference coaches, based on play and statistics throughout the season.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team lost 10-5 to #2 Penn State Brandywine in the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs. The game was the eighth in four days for the Wildcats as they ran out of steam and came up just short of a spot in the championships. They end the season 22-11 overall and 13-9 in the PSUAC.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology put on an offensive show as they defeated Penn State Beaver 13-0 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs Saturday afternoon. Junior Harrison Myers (Lebanon) recorded the victory pitching seven strong and striking out seven. He allowed only three hits the entire game.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology just missed upsetting #1 Penn State Greater Allegheny as the team fell 2-1 Friday night. The Wildcats held a 1-0 lead until the sixth when Greater Allegheny tied the game and then took the win in the seventh. The loss drops Penn College to the loser’s bracket where it will take on Penn State Beaver.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team defeated Penn State Mont Alto 6-2 to earn a berth into the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs. The game was a play-in between the two teams who ended the regular season with the same record. Freshman Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) earned the win pitching seven strong with only three hits and four strikeouts.

MONACA, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team split a conference double header with Penn State Beaver Thursday. The Wildcats won game one 8-0 and lost 5-3 in the follow-up. The split places the team in fifth place in the Penn State University Athletic Conference forcing a play-in game for the conference playoffs this weekend against Penn State Mont Alto.

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – Junior Garrett Hornung (Emporium) racked up four hits and an RBI as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team split with Penn State Fayette Wednesday. The Wildcats dropped the first game 4-1 but came back to dominate and win 7-0 in the second. Penn College improves to 19-8 overall and 10-6 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophomore Thomas Hughes (Easton) had six hits and three RBI as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team won its ninth straight game with a sweep of Penn State Scranton. The Wildcats won 16-1 and 23-1 ending both games in five innings. They improve to 18-7 overall and 9-5 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball scored 26 runs off of 22 hits as they swept Penn State Wilkes Barre 12-2 and 14-1 Thursday. Freshman Jacob Bull (Jacobus) and senior Ethan Boyd (Roaring Spring) each earned wins as the Wildcats improve to 16-7 and 7-5 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

HAZLETON, Pa. – Senior Ethan Boyd (Roaring Spring) notched five RBI and three hits to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology sweep Penn State Hazleton 1-0 and 6-2 Wednesday. Freshman Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) earned a win in game one with a complete game shutout and freshman Phillip Carnevale (Carteret, N.J.) got the victory in game two pitching six innings and only giving up two.

Penn College junior Garrett Hornung (Emporium) was named the Penn State University Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending April 17. Hornung hit .636 (7-11) with three doubles, five RBI and 10 runs. He helped the Wildcats to a 3-1 week, sweeping Penn State York and splitting with Penn State Mont Alto.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Garrett Hornung (Emporium) had another strong outing with four hits and four RBI as the Pennsylvania College of Technology swept Penn State York in conference action Sunday. The Wildcats ended the first game early with a decisive 11-1 win and followed that up winning 10-4. Penn College now improves to 12-7 overall and 3-5 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

MCKEESPORT, Pa. – Junior Skylar Gingrich (Lititz) led the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team with three hits but it wasn’t enough to overcome Penn State Greater Allegheny as they were swept 12-3 and 4-1 Sunday. The losses mark the fourth straight for the Wildcats as they fall to 0-4 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference and 9-6 overall.

MEDIA, Pa. – After two weeks of postponements, the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team got back into action against Penn State Brandywine in conference action Wednesday. Despite solid pitching performances from sophomore Harrison Myers (Lebanon) and freshman Philip Carnevale (Carteret, N.J.), the Wildcats were swept 2-1 and 7-3 in doubleheader action. Sophomore Matthew King (Southampton) had three hits and two RBIs in the losses.

Penn College junior Skylar Gingrich, of Lititz, was named the Penn State University Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending March 20. Gingrich hit .417 (5 for 12) in a 5-1 week. He notched 10 RBIs and had two home runs. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.000 and he had a .650 on-base percentage. This is Gingrich’s first PSUAC honor this season. He leads the team with a .444 batting average (8 for 18) with two home runs and three doubles.

MYRLTE BEACH, S.C. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team suffered its first loss of the season against Owens College (Ohio) 12-4. The Wildcats finished the spring break tournament an impressive 4-1. “Overall it was a good tournament,” said head coach Chris Howard. “We played some good baseball and I’m happy with how it turned out.”

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Freshman James Funk (Washington Boro) brought in the winning RBI with a bases loaded walk to help lift the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team to a 12-11 victory over Eastern University (Pa.). The win is the third consecutive for the Wildcats as they open their season in Myrtle Beach.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team kicked off its 2011 season notching two wins against SUNY Ulster and Catholic University (JV) down in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Wildcats won 6-3 against Ulster and 12-0 against Catholic. Junior Skylar Gingrich (Lititz) led the offense cracking three doubles and six RBIs on the day.
