The Wildcats end the regular season 8-4-2
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite nine saves from freshman keeper Reda Vermilya (Turbotville), the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s soccer team lost 1-0 to Alfred University Saturday. The goal was a penalty kick awarded to the Saxons in the closing seconds of the first half. The loss drops the Wildcats to 8-4-2 overall ending their regular season.
Both teams had strong chances in the first half. Alfred looked to get on the board early when they earned a penalty kick in the 38th. Mary Hendee took the kick and sent it to the right corner, but Vermilya was there for the save.
A controversial handball call at 44:57 sent Tracie McGinnity in for the penalty kick. This time it was too strong a shot for Vermilya and they went into the half up 1-0.
The goal would hold on to be the game winner.
It was an evenly matched game with the Saxons just outshooting Penn College 17-15.
Next up, the Wildcats travel to Asheville, N.C. where they will take on Daemon College in the opening round of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association’s Women’s Soccer Championships. The game is slated for Thursday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m.
