MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team dropped a pair of games on its second day of the 2012 Snowbird Softball Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Wildcats lost 8-0 (5 inn.) to Swarthmore College and then fell 5-4 to Miami Univ. (Hamilton). “We need to execute when we have the opportunity,” said head coach Roger Harris. “We’re a young team and we’re hitting the ball well. This is just something we need to improve and built on.”

Penn College (1-3) sprinkled seven hits in the opening game against Swarthmore. The Garnet scored four in the first inning and then tacked on two in both the third and fourth.

The Wildcats threatened in the second with bases loaded and no outs, but Swarthmore’s defense got out of the jam. Freshman Emily Yoder (Catawissa) recorded the loss giving up seven earned.

Sophomore Lacy Lose (Avis) and freshmen Britni Fennell (Conyngham) and Kaseen Woodward (Troy) each went 2-2 in the game.

Lose had the ball against Miami in game two and notched four strikeouts and gave up three earned runs in seven innings of work. Penn College was down 1-0 for the first five before Miami added a run in the sixth and three in the seventh. Fennell and Woodward hit back to back doubles each earning two RBI to stage a comeback that just fell short. The team totaled six hits in the game.

Next up, Penn College plays on Wednesday, Mar. 7 and takes on Eastern University (Pa.) at 9:30 a.m. followed by SUNY IT at 11:30.
