Thomas Hughes went 2-4 against Olney with two doubles
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team lost 12-2 to Olney College at the Ripken Experience Spring Break Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Wildcats gave up six unearned runs in the game off of two errors. Junior Thomas Hughes (Easton) led the team going 2-4 with two doubles while freshman Nicholas Fazio (Norristown) was 1-3 with an RBI.
Freshman Jacob Wrenn (Granville, Mass.) started the game and went three innings striking out two and giving up two earned runs. Penn College (2-1) cut the lead in half in the second when freshman Zack Buterbaugh (Conestoga) singled with two outs to score sophomore Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) who walked. Hughes doubled to put runners at second and third, but Olney got the third out on a popup from senior Garrett Hornung (Emporium).
Freshman Travis Hendershot (Muncy) came in for Wrenn in the fourth and pitched a scoreless inning. Olney put together an eight-run fifth causing an early exit for Hendershot ending his outing with a strikeout and three earned runs. Freshman John Rodriguez (Stroudsburg) came in relief and ended the inning giving up two runs and striking out one.
The Wildcats put up their final run in the bottom of the fifth when Fazio hit a bases loaded single to score Smith who walked.
Penn College totaled six hits in the game.
Next up, the Wildcats take on Ancilla College on Wednesday, Mar. 7 for a 6:30 p.m. game.
