Harrison Myers pitched a complete game with six K's
MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team opened up conference play on Thursday sweeping Penn State Mont Alto 3-2 and 7-2. Junior Harrison Myers (Lebanon) and sophomore Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) each record victories while freshman Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) had a good day at the plate with four hits and two RBI. The win improves the team to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
In the opener, the Wildcats scored in the first off an RBI triple from senior Garrett Hornung (Emporium). They tacked on another in the third as senior Jared Johnson (Wyalusing) doubled for the RBI.
Mont Alto scored a run in the fifth and then tied it up in the sixth after stealing home. Penn College responded in the seventh as sophomore Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) hit a bases-loaded RBI single. Senior Skylar Gingrich (Lititz) doubled in the inning.
Myers shut down the Lions in the bottom of the inning for the win. He pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and two hits. Penn College totaled nine hits with Zachary and Cody Buterbaugh both recording two hits.
In game two, both teams put up two runs in the first, with Gingrich notching two RBIs off a double for the Wildcats. They took a 4-2 lead in the second as Zachary Buterbaugh and Horning each hit RBI singles.
After freshman Travis Hendershot (Muncy) doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball, Cody Buterbaugh hit him home making it a 5-2 game in the fifth. Penn College added two more runs in the seventh to end the game with the five-point cushion.
As a team, the Wildcats totaled 10 hits with Hendershot going 3-4 with two doubles. Starter Santangelo went six innings with four hits, two runs and four strikeouts. Zachary Buterbaugh came in relief in the seventh with two strikeouts.
Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State Fayette for a conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 31.
