Munn recorded nine saves in the victory
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Freshman Sterling Weikel (Dewart) netted a goal in the first half to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology to a 1-0 over #6 University of Southern Maine College at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Championships. The game was consolation as the #7 Wildcats lost its opening round 2-0 to #2 Briarcliffe College. Sophomore Phil Bair (Franklintown) assisted on the goal as Penn College finishes the 2011 season 13-7-2 overall.
Weikel’s goal came in the 15th when Bair made a quick pass on a restart that allowed Weikel a clear shot. Sophomore David Munn (Athens) recorded three saves in the first half to keep the Wildcats up 1-0. Penn College outshot Southern Maine 7-3 in the half.
It was a fight out the break with both teams having opportunities. Southern Maine outshot Penn College 7-6, but the defense, headed by Munn denied an equalizer.
Munn ended the game with nine saves.
Penn College totaled 13 shots and had five corner kicks in the victory.
