The Wildcats fell to four time champion PSU Fayette 3-1
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Freshman Kelly Hebert (Wellsboro) had eight kills but the Pennsylvania College of Technology lost 3-1 to Penn State Fayette in the Penn State University Athletic Conference Championship. Senior Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) had 23 assists in the match that was played at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University.
In set one, Penn College (20-9, 16-2 PSUAC) had a 15-10 lead before the Lions went on a 7-0 run to make it 17-15. They would hold onto the lead and take the set 25-22. Set two was tight with neither team gaining any substantial ground in the first 12 points. Fayette’s offense got hot though as the squad went on a tear and took set two 25-16. Penn College had 10 kills in the set.
In set three, it was the Wildcat’s turn to take some momentum as they had an eight point lead to open it. Fayette made some unforced errors and the Wildcat’s capitalized winning 25-16. Some miscommunication and untimely errors were the blame in set four as the Wildcat’s notched only eight points in the set.
As a team, Penn College had 30 kills and 44 digs. Smith and freshmen Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) and Kasey Smith (New Park) each had eight digs to lead the team.
The United States Collegiate Athletic Association Championships in Louisville, Ky. begin on Nov. 10. Penn College is ranked #7 in the polls and may receive a bid to the tournament. Bids will be announced Friday, Oct. 28.
