The loss drops the Wildcats to 1-3 in the PSUAC

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Dana Reed (Sunbury) scored 19 in her first game for the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team as the team fell 87-66 to Penn State Fayette in its first game back from the holiday break. Reed also led the team with 10 boards notching a ‘double-double.’ The loss drops the Wildcats to 1-9 overall and 1-3 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

Fayette led the entire game but the Wildcats kept it close and tied it twice in the early minutes of the opener. Reed hit a jumper at 7:28 to bring it to 21-20. Fayette went into the break up 39-27.

In the half, Penn College shot .303 (10-33) from the field. Turnovers plagued the team as they committed 24 while the Lions had 16 steals.

Out of the break, the Wildcats opened on a 6-1 run, three from freshman Mackenzie Brown (Lititz), to bring it to 42-34 at 18:13. Fayette surged on though to build its lead as high as 24 in the half before ending the game with the 21-point victory margin.

Brown ended the game with 12 points, her season high since missing most of the first half of the season due to injury.

Also for Penn College, junior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) had 11 points. For the Lions, Jill Guthrie led all scorers with 27 while Caitlyn Wontroba added 21 and Kaitlyn Novak 16.

The Wildcats travel to Penn State York on Sunday, Jan. 8 for a conference game at 1 p.m.
