Junior Abby MacDonald had a season high 10 points
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –Juniors Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) and Abby MacDonald (Red Lion) and freshman Niesha Williams (Williamsport) each scored in double figures to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team to its first victory of the season over Penn State Mont Alto 58-39. Steer lead the team with 19 points and Williams added 13 and MacDonald 10. The win improves the team to 1-7 overall and 1-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
The offensive was slow for the two teams in the opening half with the Lions taking the lead 6-3 at 14:47. Penn College put up a 13-0 run, six from Steer, to take a 16-6 lead with just over five remaining. They closed out with another 13-0 run, six from Steer, to go into the break up 31-10.
Steer finished the half with 17 points. The Wildcats totaled 13 steals in the opener with Mont Alto turning the ball over 27 times.
Mont Alto’s offense came back in the second outscoring the Wildcats 29-27, but the deficit was too great to overcome. Freshman Allison Van Metter (Saylorsburg) hit a layup at 13:42 to give Penn College its largest lead of the game at 42-14.
As a team, Penn College was outrebounded 57-54, show .273 (24-88) for the game and had 20 steals.
The Wildcats finish out the first half of their season when they host a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Dec. 10 against Penn State Beaver.
