Adam Groff notched wins at second doubles and fourth singles to start off the 2011 season
HAZLETON, Pa. – Head coach Robert Kemrer notched his first career win as the Pennsylvania College of Technology tennis team defeated Penn State Hazleton 5-4 in conference action Wednesday. Freshman Nathan Scott (Canton, Conn.) started his rookie campaign with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win at first singles and then partnered up with freshman Adam Smith (Duncannon) to take first doubles 6-1, 6-1.
Also for Penn College (1-0), sophomore Caleb Wise took third singles 6-1, 6-3 while sophomore Adam Groff (Washington Boro) pulled out a 6-3, 6-2 victory at fourth singles. Wise and Groff partnered up at second doubles to win 6-2, 6-3 to clinch it for the team.
Down a player on the women’s side, the Wildcats were forced to forfeit a doubles match and the second singles match. Senior Rachel Emmons (Washington, N.J.) had a tough 6-0, 6-0 loss against last year’s Penn State University Athletic Conference women’s first singles champion.
Next up, Penn College will travel to Penn State Lehigh Valley for a noon match on Saturday, Sept. 17.
