Fall 2011 Women's Volleyball: PSU Wilkes Barre

The Wildcats end the regular season 19-8 overall and 15-1 in the PSUAC
WILKES BARRE, Pa. – Freshman Kelly Hebert (Wellsboro) notched 22 kills as the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s volleyball team defeated Penn State Scranton and Wilkes Barre Sunday. The Wildcats swept Scranton 3-0 and took Wilkes Barre to five. They end the regular season 19-8 overall and 15-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
Against Scranton, Penn College was dominant winning 25-8, 25-13, and 25-19. Sophomore Lindsay Moyer (Canton) led the team with eight kills while junior Alyssa Millard (Sayre) had the touch with 21 assists. The team totaled 26 kills and had nine aces.
Wilkes Barre proved the tougher opponent taking the opening set 25-19. The Wildcats came back with a 25-13 win, but the teams traded sets in the next two 13-25 and 25-11 to force a deciding fifth set. It was back and forth in the game with the Wildcats just edging Wilkes Barre 15-10.
Hebert had 18 kills in the game with freshman Courtney Gernet (Palmyra) adding 14. Senior Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) had 39 assists and junior Tara Powell (Burgettstown) led the team with 16 digs.
As a team, Penn College totaled 54 kills and 69 digs.
The Wildcats have secured the second seed for the PSUAC tournament and will host the still to be determined seventh seed on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
