The Wildcats didn't drop a set the entire day
tWILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) had 40 assists to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s volleyball team to wins over Penn State Beaver and Penn State New Kensington Sunday. The Wildcats hosted the teams for a Penn State University Athletic Conference match winning 3-0 against both squads.
Penn College (16-8, 12-1 PSUAC) took on Beaver first for the day. The teams battled it and tied the score three times before the Wildcats made a run to go up 15-11. They held on to win set one 25-20. Set two was a similar story with neither team gaining any ground until a run from Penn College put it 23-13, eventually taking the set 25-19. Beaver had an 11-6 lead in set three with the Wildcats slowly climbing back before tying at 20 all. The set ended in a tight 25-23 win for Penn College.
Sophomore Lindsay Moyer (Canton) and freshman Kelly Hebert (Wellsboro) each had eight kills to lead the Wildcats. Smith notched a team-leading 14 digs and 26 assists.
Against New Kensington, Penn College took set one 25-14 but found itself down by four in set two. Some Lions errors coupled with some strong play from freshman Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) pulled the Wildcats back and they took the game 25-17. Penn College was on cruise control in set three winning 25-8.
Gernert finished the game with nine kills leading the team. Sophomore Rachel Heller (Allison Park) had 14 digs.
Penn College will next host Penn State York on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m.
