Junior Alyssa Millard had 16 assists against Greater Allegheny
HAZLETON, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s volleyball team went 1-1 at the Penn State Hazleton quad match. The Wildcats lost 3-1 to Penn State Fayette and won 3-0 against Penn State Greater Allegheny. With the win and loss, Penn College improves to 14-8 overall and 10-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
Penn College (14-8, 10-1 PSUAC) faced conference leader Fayette in the opener. Dropping the first game 25-21, the team came back in the second to win 25-22 and even the match. The third game was a battle with neither team gaining a significant lead, but it was Fayette who edged out the 27-25 win. Fallout from that set gave Fayette an easy 25-15 fourth set win and the match.
In the game, sophomore Lindsay Moyer (Canton) led the team in kills with 11 and had three aces. As a team, the Wildcats totaled 63 digs with freshman Kasey Smith (New Park) recording a season and career high 18. Sophomore Paula Karine Monteiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was also in double digits with 12 digs and junior Tara Powell (Burgettstown) added 11. Senior Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) had a strong game with 33 assists.
It was a much smoother game against Greater Allegheny. Penn College swept through the match 25-15, 25-13 and 25-18. Freshmen Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) and Caitlyn Curley (Middletown) each had five kills to lead the team. Freshman Kelly Hebert (Wellsboro) had four blocks and junior Alyssa Millard (Sayre) led the team in assists with 16.
Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State Beaver, New Kensington and Hazleton for a quad match on Sunday, Oct. 9 starting at 11 a.m.
