MONACA, Pa. – Senior Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) was named to the Penn State Beaver Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team as she helped Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s volleyball defeat the host school 3-0 on day two of the tournament. The Wildcats started off the day with conference rival Penn State Fayette and lost 3-0 before sweeping Beaver in the consolation round.
In the opener, freshman Kelly Hebert (Wellsboro) played strong against Fayette with four solo blocks and kills. “Hebert had a nice game,” said head coach Bambi Hawkins. “She made some great plays at the net that helped us out.”
The Wildcats kept it a close first set losing 25-20 and fell in the next two 25-17 and 25-22. “We didn’t play well,” Hawkins said. “We played flat until the third set and they just edged us out.”
Smith had 17 assists in the game.
It was a different story against Beaver, as Penn College (1-2) dominated winning in three sets 25-13, 25-20 and 25-21. Sophomore Lindsay Moyer (Canton) had four kills and six digs while freshman Courtney Gernet (Palmyra) stepped up with four kills. Smith had 19 assists bringing her total for the tournament to 46.
Next up, the Wildcats will travel to cross-town rival Lycoming College for a tri-match with Baptist Bible College. First game is slated for 4 p.m.
