Freshman Shelby Straub had a season and career high two goals against the Lions
LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - Freshman Shelby Straub (South Williamsport) scored a career high two goals to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's soccer team defeat Lincoln University 4-2 Saturday. The win is the second straight for the team and the first against Lincoln University. The two teams played earlier in the season to a 1-1 draw. Junior Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) and freshman Valeria Passalacqua (McAllisterville) each scored in the win.
Penn College (2-5-2) got on the board early in the first half when Steer hit a laser from 25 yards out that beat the keeper. Passalacqua assisted on the goal that came in the fifth. Straub then scored back-to-back goals, the first coming in the 12th. Steer sent a corner kick in for Straub to finish. Then in the 25th, she took a pass from freshman Catherine Wise (Mechanicsburg) and shot it high deflecting off the crossbar into the net.
Out of the break, Lincoln scored consecutive goals to cut the defecit to 3-2. Passalacqua sealed the victory in the 88th when Steer sent a long drive allowing for the breakaway.
As a team, the Wildcats had 14 shots and six corner kicks. Freshman keeper Stephanie Koleno (Moshannon) had four saves in 90 minutes of work.
Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State Beaver on Sunday, Oct. 16 for a 2 p.m. game.
