Wildcats win second straight overtime victory
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Chris Brennan (New Hope) scored in the 92nd minute to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s soccer team to a 5-4 victory over Alfred University. The overtime victory is the second straight for the Wildcats after defeating Penn State York in overtime last Saturday. Brennan notched a hat trick and scored the game winner off a deflection from a Saxon defender that was the result of a set piece just outside the center box.
Penn College (7-4-2) was down early after Alfred (5-6-2) scored in the fourth. Sophomore Ben Shade (Fleetwood) equalized in the 17th when sophomore Mitch Pequignot (Trout Run) sent an outside pass in. Brennan gave the team the lead in the 24th when senior William DeAngelo (Dallas) crossed a ball out wide.
The Saxons came back though in the 35th to take it into the half tied at two.
Brennan again gave the lead in the 38th this time from sophomore Phil Bair (Franklintown) who sent a through pass down the middle. Alfred remained persistent and scored consecutive goals in the 68th and 70th to lead. The Wildcats held tough and with just one minute left in the game scored when Shade deflected a ball to DeAngelo in the box who made quick work of it.
For Penn College, freshman keeper Aaron Volz (West Chester) records the win with six saves. Penn College totaled four corners and 18 shots in the game.
Penn College next travels to Valley Forge Christian College on Thursday, Oct. 13 for a 4:30 p.m. game.
