Junior Ben Shade scored the game winner in OT
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Ben Shade (Fleetwood) scored the game winner in overtime to help lift the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s soccer team over Penn State York 2-1. Shade’s goal came in the 94th minute when Penn College drove the ball in the from the 18 yard line that deflected off a defender right to Shade’s foot. The loss is the first for York this season in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
York (8-3, 6-1 PSUAC) threatened early in the first half when it crossed a ball that was just saved by freshman keeper Aaron Volz (West Chester). Penn College (6-4-2, 4-0-1 PSUAC) got on the board in the 31st when York’s keeper fouled in the box calling for a penalty kick. Senior Patrick Kehoe (Oley) slid it right past the keeper on the left side to help Penn College go up 1-0.
Volz ended the game with four saves.
Back and forth play ensued and it looked like the Wildcats were going into the half with the lead when Aldin Avdic took a pass from Adam Beck to equalize in the 45th.
The Wildcats outshot York 12-6 in the second half but were not able to finish causing the game to go into overtime. Shade ended it just three minutes later.
This is the first time Penn College has won in overtime this season. The team had to settle for draws against both Penn State Brandywine and Lycoming College in September.
As a team, the Wildcats totaled 24 shots and 12 corner kicks.
Next up, Penn College hosts Alfred University on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m.
