The Wildcats will take on Mont Alto in a play-in for a spot in the PSUAC playoffs
MONACA, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team split a conference double header with Penn State Beaver Thursday. The Wildcats won game one 8-0 and lost 5-3 in the follow-up. The split places the team in fifth place in the Penn State University Athletic Conference forcing a play-in game for the conference playoffs this weekend against Penn State Mont Alto.
In game one, Penn College (20-9, 11-7) scored two in the third off of one hit. Senior Ethan Boyd (Roaring Spring) recorded an RBI off a sacrifice fly.
In the third, junior Garrett Hornung (Emporium) hit an RBI single. He finished the game with four hits including two doubles.
A five run sixth sealed the win. The Beaver pitching staff walked five straight batters in the inning while sophomores Matthew King (Southampton) and Ryan Weachock (Pottsville) each singled in the inning. Both finished the game with two hits.
Junior Harrison Myers (Lebanon) recorded the win with five scoreless innings and six strikeouts. Freshman Jarod Bull (Jascobus) pitched two innings in relief giving up only two hits.
In game two, the Wildcats jumped on top first with two runs in the second off an error and fielder’s choice. Beaver equalized in the bottom of the inning and added three more in the sixth. Despite an RBI from sophomore Tyler Rice (Trumbull, Conn.) in the seventh, the Lions closed out the game on top.
Penn College will take on Penn State Mont Alto at 2 p.m. on Fri., April 29 at Medler Field in State College.
