Senior Ethan Boyd had a season high 5 RBI in the sweep

HAZLETON, Pa. – Senior Ethan Boyd (Roaring Spring) notched five RBI and three hits to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology sweep Penn State Hazleton 1-0 and 6-2 Wednesday. Freshman Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) earned a win in game one with a complete game shutout and freshman Phillip Carnevale (Carteret, N.J.) got the victory in game two pitching six innings and only giving up two.

Penn College (14-7, 5-5 PSUAC) turned up the defense in game one behind Santangelo. In seven innings, only one runner advanced to second base. Boyd hit an RBI double in the sixth to score Thomas Hughes who reached on a walk and stole second to get into scoring position. Santangelo ended the game with four strikeouts and allowed only two hits.

The offense came out in game two with the Wildcats scoring three runs in the third. Boyd hit a two RBI single followed by an RBI hit from sophomore Ryan Weachock (Pottsville). With bases loaded in the sixth, sophomore Garrett Hornung (Emporium) walked to make it 4-2. Boyd put it away with another two RBI single in the next at bat.

Junior Harrison Myers (Lebanon) pitched a shutout inning in relief.

Penn College next hosts Penn State Wilkes Barre on Thur., April 21 for an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
