Spring 2011 Baseball: Spring Training - Myrtle Beach Eastern (Pa.)

The Wildcats drew a bases loaded walk for the 12-11 win
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Freshman James Funk (Washington Boro) brought in the winning RBI with a bases loaded walk to help lift the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team to a 12-11 victory over Eastern University (Pa.). The win is the third consecutive for the Wildcats as they open their season in Myrtle Beach.
Despite going up 3-0 in the third inning, Penn College (3-0) gave up eight unearned runs to fall behind. “This was only our third game of the season,” said head coach Chris Howard. “We played two games yesterday and we were just a little sore. Routine plays become a little harder when that happens.”
The Wildcats tied it up going into the ninth where freshman Philip Carnevale (Cateret, N.J.) pitched a shutout inning in relief. In the bottom of the inning, sophomore Ryan Wheachock (Pottsville) led off with a triple. The Eagles intentionally walked to next two batters for the force. Funk drew the next walk for the win.
For Penn College, junior Garrett Hornung (Emporium) had three hits with four RBIs and a run scored. Senior Jared Johnson (Wyalusing) had two hits with three RBIs.
“I’m pleased with where we are at,” added Howard. “The errors are all a part of getting the kinks out. With the weather, this is our first time out on a field. I’m happy with how we are playing.”
The Wildcats will play their final two games of the trip against Danville and Owens on March 10.
