Senior Andrew Epley led the team with 34 kills in the tournament
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s volleyball team went 1-2 at the Mid-Atlantic Club Volleyball Conference Championships Saturday. Held at Bloomsburg University, the Wildcats had a tough pool losing 1-2 to Harrisburg Community College and Kutztown University. They defeated Rutgers University 2-0 in the lone victory of the tournament. Senior Andrew Epley (Littlestown) led the team with 34 kills on the day.
Penn College (11-11) opened up the tournament with Harrisburg. The wildcats were looking to seek revenge after losing earlier in the year 1-3. They dropped the first set 25-16 before edging the team out 26-24. It was a tight match in the third with Harrisburg squeaking by 15-11. Junior James Fortenberry (Lemoyne) had a season high 14 assists while Epley led the team with 15 kills.
The Wildcats took on Rutgers next sweeping the Knights 26-24 and 25-21. Epley, sophomores Colin Grube (Trucksville) and Adam Smith (Duncannon) each notched five kills to lead the team. Fortenberry and freshman Kiet Hervet (Berwick) each had six assists.
In a must win game against Kutztown, Penn College took the first set 28-26. Despite fighting hard the Wildcats fell in the next two 25-13 and 15-13 ending tournament hopes. Epley finished with another strong performance racking up 14 kills. Smith wasn’t far behind with 10. Sophomore Brad Kabosky (Hunlock Creek) had 17 assists in the game.
