The Wildcats will face the loser of Penn State Beaver and Penn State Hazleton in the elimination round
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team lost a 6-5 nail biter to Penn State Mont Alto in the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs Friday. Trailing most of the game, the Wildcats took a 5-4 lead going into the sixth but allowed two runs by the Lions to steal the victory away.
Mont Alto jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first off of four hits. The Wildcats cut the lead in half in the fourth off an RBI double from junior Erin Bannon (Williamsport). Two more runs in the bottom of the inning from Mont Alto put the game at 4-1.
In the fifth, Penn College (13-12, 9-4 PSUAC) scored four off of five hits. Freshman Sabrina Reynolds (Muncy) and Bannon each had RBI singles while senior Trisha Moser (Watsontown) hit a double in the left center gap to score two and put the team on top 5-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lions put their first two batters on base. Sophomore Lacy Lose (Avis) came in for senior Tiffany Deihm (Mohnton) who started the game on the mound. Penn College made some mental errors allowing two runs to score to lose the lead.
The Wildcats hit some hard balls in the seventh but Mont Alto picked up its defense to get three outs and the victory.
Penn College falls to the loser’s bracket of the double elimination tournament. They will face the loser of #1 Penn State Beaver and #4 Penn State Hazleton at 4 p.m. today.
