Fall 2010 Men's Soccer: USCAA National Championship - Burlington, Vt. (5) Concordia College

November 5, 2010

BURLINGTON, Vt. – No. 4 Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s soccer team defeated No. 5 Concordia College in a penalty kick thriller 4-3 to advance to the USCAA Men’s Soccer Championship Semifinals. The Wildcats ended regulation time tied 1-1 and had two scoreless overtime periods before going into penalty kicks.

It all came down to senior captain Nick Grasso (New Columbia), the final kicker for Penn College. The teams were tied 3-3 after each had missed one. Grasso made easy work of the shot putting the ball into the back of the net as his counterpart on Concordia missed and hit post to seal the Wildcat victory. Freshman Patrick Massango (Harrisburg), senior Seth Rearick (Watsontown) and junior Patrick Kehoe (Oley) each scored penalty kicks in the shootout.

After a scoreless first half, Penn College (16-3) broke through in the 62nd as junior captain William DeAngelo (Dallas) got a deflection from the keeper and made quick work of it. Concordia would answer in the 78th to send it into overtime.

Senior captain goalkeeper Dan Shaffer (Shermans Dale) had six saves in the win.

As a team, the Wildcats outshot Concordia 16-2 and had nine corners.

Next up, the Wildcats will take on top seed Maine Fort Kent on Saturday, November 6 at 6 p.m.
