Keiosha Cooksey notched her first double-double of the season against Fayette

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team dropped it first conference game of the season 67-74 to Penn State Fayette. Sophomore Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) led all scorers with 24 points in the loss.

After going down 4-0 in the opening half, a layup from freshman Hilary Rice (Biglerville) put the Wildcats on the board. They would take the lead at 10-8 off a jumper from Steer at 15:05. Back and forth play would ensue with seven lead changes in total. Freshman Keiosha Cooksey (Harrisburg) would hit a jumper with under a minute to take Penn College into the break up 31-30.

Rice finished the game with 15 points and five rebounds while Cooksey notched a double-double with 10 points and rebounds.

Fayette (3-8, 3-0 PSUAC) came out of the break and quickly took the lead back hitting a jumper in the opening seconds of play. Steer would hit a jumper at with 11:20 left to give the Wildcats their last lead of the game at 49-48 before the Lions would jump ahead and build a 10 point lead with four minutes left. The Wildcats would bring it to within four (66-70) with 1:41 left.

Steer also finished the game with five rebounds. Also for Penn College (4-5, 2-1 PSUAC), freshman Tasha Stover (Bellefonte)

As a team, the Wildcats shot 35 percent from the field and were 18-32 (.560) from the line. They out-rebounded Fayette 55-48.

Penn College will next travel to Penn State Beaver on Tuesday, Jan 11 for a 6pm conference game.
