The Wildcats earned their first conference victory 60-46 over Hazleton

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team to a 60-46 win over conference rival Penn State Hazleton. Freshman Tasha Stover (Bellefonte) added 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists on the night as the Wildcats open up conference play a perfect 1-0 while improving 3-3 overall.

In the first half, things were slow to get going as the game started with three scoreless minutes before Steer hit a layup to break the stalemate. The Wildcats would go on a 10-0, three from both Stover and freshman Kendra Dutrow (Bellefonte) to go up 12-4 with 11 minutes left in the half.

Dutrow finished the game with nine.

Dutrow would hit a three at 8:07 to give Penn College its biggest lead of the half at 19-7. The Lions would counter with a 5-0 run to bring it to within seven with 5:36 remaining.

Coming out of the half up 28-18, the Wildcats went on a 9-2 run, five from Rice. It was cruise control from there as they would go on to build up their lead to 19 with 12 minutes remaining and shoot an impressive 72 percent in the run.

For the game, Penn College would hit 36.5 percent from the field and 47.1 from the charity stripe. The team out-rebounded the Lions 53-40.

The Wildcats will finish up the first half of their season on Saturday, Dec. 4 when they travel to Penn State Mont Alto for a 1 p.m. game.
