The Wildcats will face PSU Beaver in the PSUAC Finals
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Junior Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) had 17 points and 13 rebounds to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s basketball team defeat Penn State Wilkes Barre 58-48 in the Penn State University Men’s Basketball Championships Semifinals. The Wildcats will take on Penn State Beaver in the conference finals on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 9 a.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State University.
The first half was tight with neither team getting significant runs. Senior Nico Italiani (Easton) hit two free throws to close out the period and give the Wildcats the 25-24 advantage at the break. Italiani ended the game with five.
Senior Greg Solyak (Lititz) opened up the second hitting a jumper and added a free throw from the foul to go up 28-24. He ended the game with 15 going a perfect 3-3 from the line.
The Wildcats started to pull away with a 9-0 run, three from Joiner, to go up 42-36 with just over eight left to play. They held the lead the rest of the game despite the Lions bringing it as close as two in the remaining time.
For the game, Penn College was out-rebounded 43-36. The team shot 20 for 56 (.357) from the field and were 15 for 21 (.714) from the charity stripe.
Also for Penn College, senior Phil Kaylor (Lebanon) had 14 points and notched five steals in a strong game.
The Wildcats will have a tough match ahead against Beaver. They lost 71-49 in the teams’ last meeting on Feb. 13.
