The Wildcats will face PSU Wilkes Barre in the PSUAC Semifinals Tuesday
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s basketball team earned a trip to State College for the Penn State University Athletic Conference men’s basketball semifinals with a 79-62 win over Penn State Brandywine. Junior Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) led the team with 22 points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats will face the winner of the Penn State Wilkes Barre and Penn State Mont Alto game on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Three other players were in double figures for Penn College (14-12, 13-3 PSUAC) as senior Greg Solyak (Lititz) sank 18 and seniors Nico Italiani (Easton) and Phillip Kaylor (Lebanon) added 11 and 10 points respectively. Kaylor also led the team with seven assists.
It was a tense first half with 11 lead changes and six ties. Brandywine (9-16, 8-8 PSUAC) made a mini run and took a 19-15 lead with just over nine left. The Wildcats came back and took the lead at 4:47 and built it to 37-27 with 11 seconds remaing. They went into the break up 37-29.
In the half, Penn College shot 14 for 39 (.359) and out-rebounded the Lions 25-18.
Things went smoother in the second as the Wildcats slowly built their lead. They had a 20 point cushion with just under five left in the game. Brandywine guard Rasheed Wilkins scored 12 in the half and led his team with 20 for the game.
In total, Penn College shot 35 for 65 (.508) in the field. They had 41 rebounds to the Lions’ 33.
The finals of the PSUAC playoffs will be played on Wednesday Feb. 23 at 9 a.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center.
