Senior Greg Solyak had 13 points in just one half of action
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Leroy Joiner (Williamsport) scored 27 and had 15 boards to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s basketball team to its fourth straight win with a 79-60 victory over Penn State Scranton. It was a whole team effort with all players sinking baskets. Seniors Nico Italiani (Easton) and Greg Solyak (Lititz) each added 13 for the Wildcats.
Italiani opened the game with a three and helped Penn College (10-11, 9-2 PSUAC) build its lead to 17-8 with just over 12 minutes left. The Wildcats started to pull away with a 7-2 run capped off by a three from Italiani that gave them a 35-20 lead with 6:01 remaining.
Solyak was strong in the half scoring 13 and going 6 for 12 (.600). Penn College shot 17 for 36 (.472) and was outrebounded 18 to 23.
The Lions opened up the second with three straight turnovers allowing Penn College to convert all into baskets and take a 50-28 lead.
Scranton (9-12, 3-10 PSUAC) never found its rhythm and could only bring it as close as 13 in the half.
Also for the Wildcats, freshman Harold Rainier (Williamsport) had seven points going 2 for 4 from the field. As a team, they shot 31 for 66 (.470) and out-rebounded Scranton 48-35.
Next up, Penn College will travel to Penn State New Kensington on Saturday, Feb. 12 for a 1 p.m. game.
