Freshman Brian Santangelo recorded the win with fourt strikeouts
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team defeated Penn State Mont Alto 6-2 to earn a berth into the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs. The game was a play-in between the two teams who ended the regular season with the same record. Freshman Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) earned the win pitching seven strong with only three hits and four strikeouts.
Penn College (21-9, 12-7 PSUAC) struck first with two runs in the third off of RBI singles from both junior Garrett Hornung (Emporium) and junior Skylar Gingrich (Lititz). The Lions equalized in the bottom of the inning with both run unearned off an error.
A three-run fifth put the Wildcats back on top for good as senior Ethan Boyd (Roaring Spring) and sophomore Ryan Weachock (Pottsville) hit RBI singles. Hornung notched another RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Penn College added one more run in the sixth when junior Thomas Hughes (Easton) singled to score junior Jared Johnson (Wyalusing).
Hughes finished the game with three hits and an RBI while Johnson added two hits and two runs. Also for the Wildcats, sophomore Matthew King (Southampton) was a perfect 2-2 at the plate.
Penn College will take on #1 Penn State Greater Allegheny at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
