The Wildcats swept Newark and Abington in non-conference action

JENKINTOWN, Pa. – With the help of 17 kills, five service aces and eight digs from sophomore Tara Powell (Burgettstown), the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s volleyball team defeated Penn State Abington and Rutgers University-Newark in a tri-match hosted by Abington. The Wildcats swept both teams winning 3-0 and now improve to 3-2 overall.

Penn College allowed only 19 total points from Abington as they won 25-5, 25-5, 25-9. Powell had eight kills in the match while junior Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg) had 15 assists.

Newark proved to be the tougher match, but the Wildcats pulled through and won 27-25, 25-21, 25-15. Smith had 22 assists and two blocks while freshman Samantha Davis (North Apollo) added three service aces.

The Wildcats will next travel to Lycoming College on Sept. 7 for a 7 p.m. match.
