Fall 2010 Women's Volleyball: PSU Beaver Volleyball Classic Ohio State Marion

Junior Lyndsey had 49 assists at the Classic
MONACA, Pa. -The Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s volleyball team defeated Penn State Beaver 3-1 as it went 1-2 in the Penn State Beaver Volleyball Classic Friday and Saturday. The team’s two losses came against Ohio State Marion (3-1) and University of Cincinnati Clermont (3-1). Tara Powell (Burgettstown) was named to the All-Tournament Team as she notched 35 digs, 10 kills and three aces.
“The team did well this weekend,” said head coach Bambi Hawkins. “It is going to be fun to see what they can do with a few adjustments and some more time with each other. They communicated well, showed some great offense and frustrated their opponents with a tenacious defense.”
In the team’s win against Beaver, the Wildcats dropped the first set 19-25 but rallied back to take the next three 25-19, 26-24, 25-22.
For Penn College, Samantha Davis (Spring Church/Apollo Ridge) had 12 aces, 11 blocks and nine kills for the tournament while Lindsay Moyer (Canton) added 13 blocks and 17 kills to the mix. Lyndsey Smith (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) was a strong setter capturing 49 assists.
The team opened the tournament against Merion with an 18-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 loss on Friday. After the win again Beaver early Saturday afternoon, Clermont defeated the Wildcats 25-23, 22-25, 28-30, 13-25
Next up, the Wildcats will travel to Penn State Abington for a tri match that includes Rutgers University – Newark.
