The Lady Wildcats are now 2-4 in the PSUAC with the split

MCKEESPORT, Pa. – With the help of five hits and RBI from sophomore Alexandra Brennan (Saint Clair), the Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team split a conference doubleheader with Penn State Greater Allegheny Saturday. Freshman Arika Stopper (Williamsport) won the opener 5-3 withthe Lions coming back in game two to win 8-7. With the split, Penn College is now 6-12 overall and 2-4 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

In game one, Stopper pitched all seven innings allowing six hits with all three runs earned. She struck out eight. Greater Allegheny scored all of its run in the third with the Lady Wildcats answering in the fifth with four runs and plating an insurance run in the sixth.

Brennan totaled three RBI off of two hits in the game while freshman Jessica Gmerek (Bellefonte) added two hits to the mix. Penn College racked up eight hits as a team.

Stopper started game two, but came out in the second allowing four runs by the Lions. Both teams went back and fourth in lead changes going into the seventh with Greater Allegheny having the 7-5 lead. Penn College tied it up in the top with two runs but a walk off RBI single in the bottom of the inning sealed its fate for the loss.

Brennan totaled three hits with two RBI while sophomore Rachael Shaeffer (Hampstead, Md.) had two hits. Freshman Brianne Brewer (Jersey Shore) recorded the loss in relief allowing four runs, three earned, with two strikeouts.

Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State New Kensington on Tuesday, Apr. 22 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
