Nicholas Pupo thre an 81-pitch gem against Sauk Valley
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Freshman Nicholas Pupo (Lewistown) threw a four-hit gem to lift the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team to a 5-2 win over Sauk Valley Community College Thursday. The Wildcats competed in their final games of the Ripken Experience Spring Break Tournament in Myrtle. They dropped their night game to a strong Henry Ford Community College 9-0 ending the week 6-2 overall.
Against Sauk, Penn College totaled six hits with senior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) going 2-4. Sauk jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first scoring on an error.
The Wildcats equalized in the third with senior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) and freshman James Brophy (Minersville) getting walked with bases loaded. They added three more runs in the fourth as junior Zachary Weil (Kutztown) hit a three RBI double with two outs.
Pupo recorded the win throwing only 81 pitches with seven strikeouts.
Against Henry Ford, the Penn College bats fell silent as the team totaled only two hits, one each from freshmen Lorenzo Marefka (Jeanette) and Tanner Kibe (Reedsville).
Freshman Kyle Fox (Fleetwood) recorded the loss allowing four earned runs off of five hits in three innings. Junior John Rodriguez-McKeon (Stroudsburg) finished the last three innings allowing four runs off of three hits. He notched two strikeouts.
Penn College next hosts Baptist Bible College on Saturday, Mar. 22 at 1p.m.
