The Lady Wildcats totaled 10 hits on the day

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Despite two hits and an RBI each from freshmen Marie Lucas (Reedsville) and Jessica Gmerek (Bellefonte), the Pennsylvania College of Technology softball team dropped two games on day two of its spring break tournament in Myrtle Beach. The Lady Wildcats fell 5-1 to Penn State Harrisburg in the first game and were just edged out by Ursinus College 2-1. The loss evens the team out to 2-2 overall.

Against Harrisburg, Penn College was down 1-0 in the second. Gmerek singled scoring freshman Brittney McHugh (Frederick, Md.) to tie it up. Harrisburg came back to score three in the fourth off of five hits. They tacked on one more in the seventh.

Sophomore Delaney Blubaugh (Waynesboro) recorded the loss going 3 2/3 allowing four earned runs off of eight hits. Freshman Brianne Brewer (Jersey Shore) pitched the final 3 1/3 recording three strikeouts and allowing only five hits.

The Lady Wildcat offense recorded only four hits in the game.

Against Ursinus, the game was scoreless throughout the first four innings. The Bears got on board with a run in the fourth off of two hits. Penn College equalized in the fifth as Lucas hit an RBI sacrifice fly.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh when Ursinus put together three hits to score a run and steal the win. Sophomore Kimberly Walter (Beavertown) recorded the loss notching five strikeouts and allowing eight hits and an earned run in six innings of work.

As a team, the Lady Wildcats totaled six hits.

Penn College next takes on Dakota State College and Arcadia University on Wednesday, Mar. 12 starting at 9:30 a.m.
