Over 300 archers attended the four-day tournament

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology archery team competed this past weekend at the U.S. Collegiate Archery Championships in Long Beach. The Wildcats placed fourth nationally and had four archers, senior Kelvin Dewalt (Easton) and juniors Kendel Baier (Jersey Shore), Matthew Cummings (Mountville) and Nicole Lapinski (Bloomsburg), earn All-American status. The men’s compound team of juniors Justus Leimbach (Westminster, Md.) and Cummings, sophomore Markus Weber (La Plata, Md.) and freshman Cody Wolfe (Tioga) took a bronze medal in the team competition. Dewalt was the top individual finisher for the Wildcats taking fifth in the men’s bowhunter competition. He and his teammates, freshmen Christopher Lafey (Weatherly), Robert Heinrich (Muncy Valley) and Matthew Lech (Johnstown) just missed a medal in the team competition taking fourth.

Also for Penn College, Baier and Dewalt took fourth in the mixed team competition. Baier led the women’s bowhunter team of sophomore Holly Neely (Lebanon) and freshmen Courtney Deshong (McConnellsburg) and Kathreen Larsen (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) to a fourth place finish in the team competition.

The tournament spanned four days with over 300 archers from 35 teams across the nation. Texas A&M finished first overall with James Madison University in second and University of California – Los Angelos rounding out the top three.
