The win is the second straight for the Wildcats
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Winning its second straight game in as many days, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s basketball team downed Penn State Hazleton 69-52 Saturday. Junior James Boylan (Newton, N.J.) led the team with 15 points and 11 boards. The Wildcats were a presence in the paint out-rebounding Hazleton 64-42. Freshman David Ware Jr. (Philadelphia) was also in double figures with 10. The win now improves the team to 4-20 overall and 3-12 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
Both teams started off cold with each only notching eight points in the first seven minutes. Down 22-12 in the seventh, Penn College went on a 13-0 run, four from Boylan to take a 25-22 edge.
The Wildcats were able to hold onto the slight lead going into the break up 27-25. In the half, they out-rebounded Hazleton (6-14, 3-9 PSUAC) 27-16.
After the Lions took a 31-27 lead in the second, Boylan led a 14-3 run with four to take the 48-36 lead with just under 10 to go. Penn College held onto the lead and closed out the game outscoring its opponents 11-3 in the final four minutes.
Ware Jr. scored all 10 of his points in the second half.
As a team, the Wildcats shot 25 for 72 (.347) from the field.
This is the second time this season the teams have met, with Hazleton winning the first meeting 72-65 on Jan. 16.
Penn College next travels to Penn State Wilkes Barre on Monday, Feb. 10 for an 8 p.m. game.
