Jacob Tuck recorded an assist in the game
ALFRED, N.Y. – Sophomore Christian Dressler (McAlisterville) scored the game winner as the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s soccer team opened its 2013 season with a 3-1 win over Alfred State University Friday. Dressler’s goal came with the game tied at 1-1 in the first half. With just five minutes left in the period, he netted a pass from junior Jacob Tuck (Hollsopple) to give the Wildcats the lead. Freshman keeper Malcolm Kane (Glenside) recorded the win with ten saves.
The first half was tight with both teams totaling only three shots in the first 30 minutes of play. Senior Christopher Brennan (New Hope) put Penn College (1-0) on the board first at 33:31, senior Cody Sollenberger (Leola) assisted. The Pioneers equalized in the 38th looking to go into the break with a tie until Dressler notched his goal in the 41st.
Sophomore Tarik Laroche (Milton) added an insurance goal in the second half at 60:56 off a pass from freshman Douglas Binnie (Charlton, Mass.).
For the game, Penn College totaled 13 shots to Alfred’s 15.
The win also marks the first career victory for head coach Adam Matter.
Next up, the Wildcats host Penn State Brandywine for a conference match on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
