Pitcher Matthew Demilio pitched two scoreless innings in game one
MANSFIELD, Pa. - Sophomore Zachary Weil (Kutztown) collected three hits and two RBI as the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team lost 13-1 and 5-2 to Mansfield University Sunday. The Wildcats totaled only seven hits between the two games. With the losses, Penn College is now 14-10 overall.
In game one, sophomore Zachary Yetter (Thompsontown) had a tough first two innings allowing eight runs, five earned. Freshman Luke Zamiskie (Latrobe) came in relief pitching the next 2 2/3 allowing four more runs with a strikeout.
The Wildcats put up their only run in the fifth. With bases loaded, sophomore Craig Watson (McEwensville) hit into a fielder's choice scoring sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy) who singled in the inning.
Sophomore Matthew Demilio (Greensburg) finished out the last two innings on the mound with a strikeout and three earned runs.
For the game, Penn College totaled three hits with Weil, Hendershot and junior Joshua Longsderff (Columbia) each recording one.
In game two, Longderff got the start pitching three scoreless innings. The Wildcats struck first in the fourth with a run off an RBI single from Weil. Mansfield equalized in the bottom.
Four runs in the fifth from the Mountaineers made it a 5-1 game and ended Longderff's day with junior Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) coming in relief. He pitched the final 1 1/3 with no runs.
Penn College's final run came in the sixth with junior Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) and freshman Jeremy Rall (Williamsport) hitting back-to-back singles. Weil then racked up his second RBI hitting into a fielder's choice.
The Wildcats totaled four hits with both Weil and Rall 1 for 2.
Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Harrisburg for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 16.
