Jenna Matzinger scored a personal high 21 points in the win
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Jenna Matzinger (Coudersport) scored a personal high 21 points and added 12 rebounds to lead the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team to a 66-60 win over Davis College Saturday. With the game tied at 60 and 24 seconds remaining, senior Kierstin Steer hit a jumper giving the Wildcats the advantage. Some clutch free throw shooting from Matzinger and freshman Jamie Steer (South Williamsport) helped close out the game with the six-point advantage. Jamie Steer ended the game with 12 and had 10 rebounds while Kierstin Steer had 11 points. The win improves the team to 9-8 overall.
Sophomore Mackenzie Brown (Lititz) hit a jumper at 16:10 stopping an 8-0 run Davis (10-6) opened the game with. A basket from Jamie Steer capped off a 6-0 in the 12th that tied the game at 10.
Brown ended the game with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
An 8-0 run in the 10th, six from Matzinger, put the Lady Wildcats ahead for the first time at 22-18. They held onto the lead going into the break up 37-31.
Out of the break, the Falcons slowly chipped away at the lead going on a 6-0 run on the 11th and bringing it to within one at 50-49. After several turnovers from Penn College, they took a 60-56 lead at 2:26. Jamie Steer and Matzinger hit back-to-back jumpers to tie it up with 55 seconds left.
As a team, Penn College shot .394 (26-66) from the field and were just out-rebounded by Davis 56-55. Both teams had trouble controlling the ball totaling 59 turnovers in the game.
Next up, the Lady Wildcats host Penn State Scranton on Monday, Jan. 28 for a 6 p.m. game.
